VFI®-607 Bleed Block Primer

VFI-607 Bleed Block Primer is a water-based, single-component, 100% acrylic roofing primer. It is applied as a barrier over asphaltic surfaces to prevent bleed-through and discoloration of a top coat. As a priming system exclusively use with acrylic and hybrid systems, it is an easytouse, single component primer. VFI-607 has a lowviscosity, resists weathering, and must be reinforced with fabric to add strength to non-reinforced surfaces. It works with a suitable acrylic or hybrid roofing system to create a long-lasting, protective membrane for commercial roof restoration.

VFI-607 Bleed Block Primer from VFI is a single-component primer that prevents asphalt bleed-through when applying a fluid applied roof coating.

Features & Benefits

  • Locks down granules for consistent adhesion
  • Blocks and traps oils associated with bleed-though and staining
  • Bonds well with various substrates, including built-up roofs or modified bitumen
  • Unique color for easy detection when top coating with silicone or acrylic roof coatings
  • Able to take fabric, eliminating the need to add fabric in a base coat for additional strength
  • Able to be used in regulated areas requiring VOCs < 50 g/L

Instructions for Use:

Surface Preparation

Adhesion is only guaranteed if the substrate receives the proper preparation before application. Ensure that the surface is clean and free of loose dirt, debris, granules, oils, films, and other contaminants. Use a power washer and cleaning detergents as needed. Repair any damaged roofing components, including drains, vents, flashing, etc. The roof should be thoroughly dry before priming.

Application

You must completely mix the material until uniform for the best results. Mix times may vary depending on volume and mixing method. Apply the primer with a roller or brush only when the temperature is between 50°F – 120°F and stays above 40°F until fully cured. Rain or other moisture contaminants must not be present before a top coat is applied and cured. Material will freeze below 32°F.

Coverage will depend on several factors, including granule profile, porosity, and general roughness of the substrate. The standard coverage rate for VFI-607 is a minimum of 1 gallon per square. Check specifications for required wet and dry film thickness. You must apply a silicone or acrylic topcoat within 48 hours after the primer has fully cured.

Cleanup

Use water to clean brushes, rollers, and any other application equipment. If the material has cured, use chemically dry mineral spirits or a similar cleaning solvent to remove it.

Safety

*Always read the safety data sheet before working with chemicals

Use chemicals only as directed and for their intended purpose. Do not dispose of chemicals down the drain. Most chemicals must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

PPE to avoid all unnecessary exposure:

  • Eye protection – wear safety glasses and any additional eye protection as necessary
  • Hand protection – wear chemically resistant protective gloves (nitrile, butyl, or neoprene)
  • Skin and body protection – wear suitable protective clothing
  • Respiratory protection – in case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product, and the safe working limits of the selected respirator

Product Limitations

As a water-based product, VFI-607 must be protected from freezing. The primer is not UV color stable and has no long-term UV testing. It must be top-coated for protection from sunlight.

  • Incompatible materials – none known
  • Conditions to avoid – heat and incompatible materials
  • Chemical stability – stable under normal storage conditions
  • Reactivity & hazardous reactions – no dangerous reaction known under normal use
  • Hazardous decomposition products – may include, and are not limited to, oxides of carbon

Potential Health Hazards

  • May cause respiratory tract irritation.
  • May cause stomach distress, nausea, or vomiting if swallowed.
  • May cause skin irritation: redness, drying, defatting, and cracking of the skin.
  • May cause eye irritation: discomfort, pain, excess blinking and tear production, redness, and swelling.

*If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical advice or attention. Call a poison control center or doctor if swallowed.
