VFI®-6020 Impact Resistant Hard Coat Repair

VFI®-6020 Impact Resistant Hard Coat Repair

VFI-6020 Impact Resistant Hard Coat Repair is a slow-setting polyurea hybrid coating that adheres to polyurea and polyurea hybrid material to repair scratches, blisters, and other damage. It can be applied by brush or injected using the VFI-7500 Qwik Spray Gun for easy application and less prep work. VFI-6020 includes a chemical thickener that causes it to thicken to a mastic consistency, so it’s easier to spread on a surface and then imprint texture, if desired. The patch material can be sanded and coated or painted to create a uniform finish.

Features & Benefits

  • Can be used with or without the cost-effective, easy-to-set-up Qwik Spray Gun
  • Withstands impact and abrasion by creating a fully sealed surface
  • Useful for a handful of theming projects to fix blemishes
  • Simple and fast repairs to polyurea and polyurea hybrid surfaces

Instructions for Use:

Equipment

VFI-6020 can be used with the two-component, cartridge-based VFI-7500 Qwik Spray Gun or brushes.

Surface Preparation

For optimal adhesion, all surfaces should be clean and free of oils, dirt, or films. Remove all damaged material. Scuff around areas you are repairing with a wire cup brush sander or 40-grit sandpaper. Clean surfaces with acetone or MEK and allow the cleaning agents to dry.

Application

VFI-6020 can be used with the plural component VFI-7500 Qwik Spray Gun or brushes. You should only apply in a well-ventilated area and wear all necessary PPE, including an approved respirator. Bring the material temperature to a minimum of 65°F before use. The surface temperature should be between 50°F – 100°F during application. The cure speed will increase if the temperature passes 72°F.

  • Brush application – Combine the A and B side materials and mix until it turns into a thick paste that is capable of hanging on vertical surfaces. Apply the repair material to all areas in need of renewal. A textured mat can be placed over the repair material while it cures to create a consistent finish with the surface.
  • Qwik Spray application – The cartridge version does not require mixing unless visibly separated. If separation occurs, shake the cartridges until uniform. Keep the cartridges vertical with the label facing up when loading it into the gun. For vertical surfaces, inject material into a cup and wait for the thickening reaction to occur. When using the Qwik Spray System, it is shot as a stream. Apply the repair material to all areas in need of renewal. A textured mat can be placed over the repair material while it cures to create a consistent finish with the surface.

Cleanup

When using the Qwik Spray System, remove the cartridges from the applicator frame and throw them away. Never soak the gun in any cleaning solvent. Use xylene or MEK to clean residue on other application equipment.

Safety

*Always read the safety data sheet before working with chemicals

Use chemicals only as directed and for their intended purpose. Do not dispose of chemicals down the drain. Most chemicals must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

PPE to avoid all unnecessary exposure:

  • Eye protection – wear safety glasses and any additional eye protection as necessary
  • Hand protection – wear chemically resistant protective gloves (nitrile, butyl, or neoprene)
  • Skin and body protection – wear suitable protective clothing
  • Respiratory protection – in case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product, and the safe working limits of the selected respirator

Product Limitations

This product contains isocyanate, which can irritate the skin upon contact or be toxic if inhaled. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors and repeated skin contact by wearing the proper personal protection equipment, including an approved respirator.

  • Incompatible materials – A side: strong bases, acids, alcohols, amines, and water. B side: oxidizers
  • Conditions to avoid – heat and incompatible materials
  • Chemical stability – stable under normal storage conditions
  • Reactivity & hazardous reactions – no dangerous reaction known under normal use
  • Hazardous decomposition products – may include, and are not limited to, oxides of carbon, as well as oxides of nitrogen and isocyanates for the A side

Potential Health Hazards

  • May cause stomach distress, nausea, or vomiting if swallowed.
  • May cause respiratory tract irritation. A side may also cause allergy and asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties.
  • Causes serious eye irritation: discomfort, pain, excess blinking and tear production, marked redness, and swelling of the conjunctiva.
  • Causes skin irritation and sensitization: redness, edema, drying, defatting, and cracking of the skin. Repeated exposure to the B side material can result in absorption through the skin, causing a significant health hazard.

*If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical assistance or attention. Call a poison control center or doctor if swallowed.
