VFI®-4895 95 A Polyurethane Casting Elastomer

VFI®-4895 95 A Polyurethane Casting Elastomer

VFI-4895 95 A Polyurethane Casting Elastomer is a versatile, two-component urethane liquid. It is pourable, and once cured, it becomes a semi-rigid thermoset elastomer. With an extended pot life and elevated properties, it offers clean, bubble-free castings for a variety of applications, including prototypes and industrial parts. It is a low free TDI, MOCA-free blend with no HMDI.

Features & Benefits

  • Extended work time to create castings with precision
  • Highly durable, versatile urethane with good rebound properties
  • Clean, bubble-free castings when vacuum degassed
  • Low free TDI, MOCA free blend with no HMDI
  • 2A:1B mix ratio by volume for easy mixing and pouring

Instructions for Use:

Mold Preparation

The mold must be clean and free of oils, dirt, or debris. All surfaces in contact with VFI-4895 must be sealed and coated with a release agent to prevent unwanted adhesion when demolding. Applying a release agent helps protect and prolong the life of the mold. Compatible molds for casting include urethane, metal, and platinum silicone when properly prepared. Do not heat the mold.

Molding Process

Mixing until uniform is required for all components before use. The A side must be premixed before combining with the B side. Properly pour 2 parts of the “A” component into 1 part of the “B” component by volume, 103 parts “A” component to 50 parts “B” component by weight, and begin mixing. Be sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the container. Transfer the mixed material into a new, clean mixing container and mix again to ensure the material is homogeneous. Mix times may vary depending on volume and mixing method. To obtain optimal properties, vacuum degassing the product is necessary after mixing.

VFI-4895 must be cured at room temperature. Thinner pours will need more time to cure to develop the necessary green strength to demold. It will reach full physical properties after 7 days. Do not heat cure this material.

Safety

*Always read the safety data sheet before working with chemicals

Use chemicals only as directed and for their intended purpose. Do not dispose of chemicals down the drain. Most chemicals must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

PPE to avoid all unnecessary exposure:

  • Eye protection – wear fitted, splash-proof glasses or goggles and a face shield if a splash hazard exists
  • Hand protection – wear chemically resistant protective gloves (nitrile, butyl, neoprene)
  • Body protection – wear suitable protective clothing that covers all exposed skin
  • Respiratory protection – in case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product, and the safe working limits of the selected respirator

Product Limitations

This product contains isocyanate, which may be irritating to the skin and is toxic if inhaled as particulate matter. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors and repeated skin contact.

  • Incompatible materials – A side: water, alcohols, amines, bases, and acids. B side: oxidizers
  • Conditions to avoid – heat and incompatible materials
  • Chemical stability – stable under normal storage conditions
  • Reactivity & hazardous reactions – no dangerous reaction known under normal use
  • Hazardous decomposition products – A side: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and HCN. B side: may include, and are not limited to, oxides of carbon

Potential Health Hazards

  • May cause respiratory tract irritation. A side material may also cause allergy and asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled.
  • Causes skin irritation or sensitization: redness, edema, drying, defatting, and cracking of the skin. Repeated exposure to the B side material can result in absorption through the skin, causing a significant health hazard.
  • Causes serious eye irritation: discomfort, pain, excess blinking and tear production, marked redness, and swelling of the conjunctiva.
  • May cause stomach distress, nausea, or vomiting if swallowed.

*If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical advice or attention. Call a poison control center or doctor if swallowed.
